Behind-the-scenes at Sol Spirit farm
As the CEO of Sol Spirit Farm and Retreats, Judi Nelson handles her flower with care, in every sense of the word. Sol Spirit produces regeneratively farmed, earth-conscious cannabis, only using nutrients made from what’s grown on the land. For the past three growing seasons, they have brought in nothing but organic olive oil and sea salt to feed the crops.
Located in Trinity County, CA, Sol Spirit is a double regenerative-certified and OCal-certified farm. Since 2019, it has also offered farm stay retreats at its Bud and Breakfast. “We are totally transparent about our practices,” says Nelson. “And you can come and see it all for yourself at our glamping retreat space here on the farm.”
Working alongside her spouse, Nelson manages day-to-day operations and works with wholesale customers to deliver an outstanding end-user experience. The end result: clean, terpene- and cannabinoid-rich flower, hand-trimmed and hand-packaged in 100% compostable packaging.
Their mission? “To reverse climate change by growing weed and help folks remember they are connected to the Earth so they feel safe and cared for,” says Nelson.
Her favorite thing about working in the cannabis industry? “Knowing that we are doing good in the world and sharing the knowledge that regenerative farming can reverse climate change. The people are generally wonderful, too.”
Her biggest challenge? “If I could freely advertise and tell the story of our amazing, earth-friendly cannabis, I would be able to help so many people. Imagine if you could easily connect with a small farm like mine online, and — after checking out our story and farming practices — you could see our menu and place an order to be shipped to your door? That would change everything, for us and the conscious consumer.”
